If your walls are high or if you are trying to hit a nail in an awkward spot it can be hard to hold a nail with your hand. Here is a Tip to make this scenario a little easier to manage. Use a piece of cardboard. Cut the cardboard long enough to reach the point where you want to pound in your nail. You are going to insert the nail through the corrugated part of the cardboard so be sure to cut the card board shorter than the length of the nail. Once you have finished hammering in your nail you can easily tear the cardboard away.
